FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Three Haverford College women's tennis players advanced to Sunday's singles consolation quarterfinals as the Fords continued play Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
Adelaide Kreutel and Jolie Zink each won twice on the court, while Aarti Prochnow advanced on two walkovers. Kreutel opened with an 8-0 win over Giovana Gaboardi of Lynchburg before defeating Chloe Monachelli of Franklin & Marshall, 8-3. She will face Susanna Whitehead of Washington and Lee at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Zink defeated Roanoke's Lydia Pratt, 8-2, then topped Zoe Vliegen of Batten, 8-4. She will meet Washington and Lee's Sarah Ladd at 11:30 a.m. Prochnow is also scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. quarterfinal against Washington and Lee's Greer Webb.
In other consolation singles matches, Mallika Reddy defeated Stevens' Jiaxiaoqi Wen, 8-5, before falling to Christopher Newport's Lindsey Bergelin, 8-6. Sarah Siolkowski earned an 8-4 win over Mary Kate Kahl of Washington and Lee before dropping an 8-0 decision to Mary Washington's Evelyn Snyder.
In the championship singles draw, Isabella Paradisi fell to ninth-seeded Maya Diyasheva of Carnegie Mellon, 6-3, 6-3, in the round of 32.
Two Fords also advanced in the Blue 1 singles draw. First-year Keira Kapur defeated Mary Washington's Jacey Copeland, 6-1, 6-2, and will face Swarthmore's Diya Gupta at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Natalia Chapa topped Swarthmore's Kirsten Stickler, 6-2, 6-4, to set up a 10:30 a.m. match against Carnegie Mellon's Rachel Li.
In doubles action, Prochnow and Reddy defeated Carnegie Mellon's Allison Hsieh and Ainika Hou, 8-4, before falling to the ninth-seeded Johns Hopkins pairing of Lia Melvin and Isabelle Emmanuel, 8-2. Zink and Siolkowski fell to Bergelin and Emma Carver of Christopher Newport, 8-3, while Kreutel and Paradisi dropped an 8-4 decision to Christopher Newport's Kylie Schaefer and Molly Miller.
Doubles consolation play resumes Sunday with Zink and Siolkowski facing Carnegie Mellon's Ancele Dolensek and Bella Nichilo at 8 a.m. Kreutel and Paradisi will meet Lynchburg's Isadora Lima and Kayla Kosiorek at 9 a.m.
