FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Isabella Paradisi advanced to the round of 32 to highlight the Haverford College women's tennis team's opening day at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday at the University of Mary Washington.
Paradisi turned in a dominant performance in her championship singles opener, dispatching Molly Miller of Christopher Newport in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. With the victory, Paradisi moves on to face ninth-seeded Maya Diyasheva of Carnegie Mellon in the round of 32 at noon Saturday.
Five other Fords competed in the championship singles draw on Friday. Aarti Prochnow drew top-seeded Sahana Madala of Johns Hopkins in the opening round, falling 6-2, 6-0. Jolie Zink also faced a seeded Johns Hopkins opponent, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision to fifth-seeded Claire Loftus.
Mallika Reddy fell to Carnegie Mellon's Ancele Dolensek, 6-3, 6-0, while Sarah Siolkowski was defeated by Swarthmore's Riley Williams, 6-2, 6-2.
Adelaide Kreutel battled Mary Washington's Brianna Stewart in the longest Haverford match of the opening day. Kreutel took the opening set, 6-4, before Stewart answered with a 7-5 victory in the second. The first-year pushed the deciding match tiebreak to the limit before being edged, 12-10.
Haverford's weekend continues with a full slate Saturday as championship doubles and Blue singles action get underway. Paradisi will also continue her run in the championship singles draw at noon.
