FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College women's tennis team wrapped up its stint at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Sunday at the University of Mary Washington, highlighted by a run to the Championship singles quarterfinals by first-year Aarti Prochnow.
Singles
In Championship singles play, Prochnow opened Sunday with a convincing victory over Swarthmore's Lola Diaz, dispatching her opponent in straight sets, 6–4, 6–2, to advance from the Round of 16 into the quarterfinals later that afternoon. There, she battled top-seeded Shelly Zinchenko, the reigning ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year from Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon before falling 6–3, 6–4.
In the Championship consolation bracket, Jolie Zink notched wins over Lebanon Valley's Sarah McComas (8–1) and Mary Washington's Sophia Broomall in a pro set (8–6). Sophie Capone defeated Samantha Robertson of Christopher Newport, 8–4, before falling to Johns Hopkins' Sahana Madala, 8–2. Adelaide Kreutel earned back-to-back wins, topping Shenandoah's Olivia Guzzo (8–5) and Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon (8–4).
In B1 singles, Abhi Menon opened with an 8–2 victory over Lynchburg's Kayla Kosiorek before dropping a competitive match to Carnegie Mellon's Allison Hsieh, 8–4. Erika Phanord fell to Washington & Lee's Mary Kate Kahl, 8–3, but rebounded with an 8–5 win over Mary Washington's Madeleine Holman in consolation play.
Natalia Chapa made a spirited run through the B3 singles draw, blanking Shenandoah's Samantha Calvert (8–0) and following up with an 8–3 win over Ella Knox of Catholic. She then edged Christopher Newport's Sophia Dadley in a tiebreaker, 8–7 (7–3). The B3 final was not contested.
Doubles
In Championship doubles, Prochnow and Zink were defeated by fourth-seeded Addison Felts and Natalie Kim of Mary Washington, 8–2 in the Round of 16.
In consolation quarterfinal action, Menon and Kirsten Close defeated Lebanon Valley's McComas and Catherine Stone, 8–3, while the pairing of Mallika Reddy and Kreutel earned an 8–3 victory over Moravian's Leah Zolotareva and Isabella Szmodis.
