LA CROSSE, Wis. - Haverford first-year Simon Lane earned qualification to Saturday's 1,500-meter final with an impressive showing in preliminary action on Thursday afternoon at the 2026 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships inside the Veterans Memorial Field Complex.
Lane placed second in the opening heat with a time of 3:50.58, going toe-to-toe with Conference rival and fellow rookie Caleb Tenney of Johns Hopkins, who finished in 3:50.22 to take the top spot in the first heat. Overall, Lane logged the 10th fastest qualifying time with the nine fastest marks overall all coming out of the second heat. The Chicago native stayed in contention throughout the tactical opening laps before closing strongly over the final lap to secure one of the four automatic qualifying spots into Saturday's national final.
Joining Lane in Saturday's final will be Ryan Hagan (SUNY Geneseo), Caleb Tanney (Johns Hopkins), Sam Su (John Carroll), Quinn Hampson (Tufts), Nicholas Lyndaker (St. Lawrence), Jayden Zywicki (Wis.-La Crosse), Jefferson Wright (Pomona-Pitzer), Jack Czarnecki (RPI), Gavin Byerly (Manchester), Benjamin Hughes (Middlebury), and Keiyu Mamiya (Williams).
