GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College men's track & field team concluded the second day of action at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Gettysburg with a pair of podium performances and several crucial qualifying marks in preliminary rounds. At the end of Day two, Haverford has accumulated 25 points, placing the Fords in seventh, well clear of Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore (18.5).
In the field, Jory Lee delivered a standout performance in the long jump, leaping 6.65 meters (21 feet, 10 inches) to finish second overall, securing a silver medal. Mark Tringas (5.96m or 19-6.75) and Peter Beredjiklian (5.76m or 18-10.75) also contributed solid marks, narrowly missing scoring positions.
In the decathlon, Jason Mayo continued his strong all-around championship performance, securing a bronze medal with 5,005 points, the fifth-best performance in program history.
He opened his day with the 110-meter hurdles in 19.03, then posted a 32.25-meter discus throw (105 feet, 10 inches) and cleared 3.50 meters in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches). He followed with a 47.88-meter javelin throw (157 feet, 1 inch) and closed the competition with a 5:45.63 effort in the 1500 meters. Earlier in the multi-event contest, Mayo also recorded 5.57 meters in the long jump (18 feet, 3 inches) and 10.09 meters in the shot put (33 feet, 1 inch).
In the 110-meter hurdles, Samuel Lin won his heat in 15.32 to advance to Sunday's final, while Ian Lihani also moved on with a 15.69. The final is scheduled for 12:30 on Sunday.
The sprint and middle-distance prelims added more qualifiers for the Fords. Thomas Fendig advanced in the 200 meters (final at 2:10 p.m. Sunday) with a 22.42 effort, then returned in the 400 meters to qualify again in 49.16 (final at 12:50 p.m. Sunday). Simon Lane also moved through in the 800 meters (final at 1:30 p.m. Sunday), running 1:55.47 to place third in his heat.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Haverford advanced two athletes into the next round. Lihani led the group with a personal-best 57.10, Nico Greene followed in 56.68, and Josue Laurore narrowly missed qualification despite a personal-best 58.13. The final is slated for 1:50 p.m.
Zenas Boamah led the way in the 100 meters, running a personal-best 11.42 to place 18th overall. Niko Beros followed in 11.73 for 23rd.
In the 4x800 relay, Haverford finished fourth overall in 7:57.19. The scoring performance added five points to the Haverford ledger, as Reef Kirchner, Wyatt Grace, Owen Bluman, and Micah Lachman passed the baton around Shirk Field, narrowly missing a medal performance, as Muhlenberg's contingent took bronze in a race that saw Dickinson break the meet record.
Kyler Lee posted a 31.83-meter throw (104 feet, 5 inches) in the discus to place 21st.
A busy third and final day of competition is scheduled for tomorrow, featuring an all-finals slate beginning at 11 a.m. at Gettysburg. Live video and results are available via the Championships Central page.
