GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The 2026 Centennial Conference Track & Field Championships opened in earnest on Friday in Gettysburg, with Haverford turning in a strong early showing highlighted by a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters and a solid first day in the decathlon.
In the 10,000 meters, Luke de Valpine earned a podium finish, taking bronze in 31:21.69 to lead the Fords' distance group. The junior adds the plaudit to a gold medal in the indoor 5,000 meters earlier this year. Torin Pelton-Flavin followed in 15th (32:43.75), Jakob Maiwald placed 16th (33:07.35), and Wade Garoutte finished 18th (33:43.24).
On the decathlon side, Jason Mayo sits in fourth place overall after day one with 2,701 total points, positioning himself well heading into the second day of competition.
Mayo opened his multi with a 100m time of 11.73 for 705 points before clocking 55.60 in the 400m for 575 points. He then cleared 1.56m in the high jump (5-01.25) to add 434 points, jumped 5.57m (18-03.25) in the long jump for 496 points, and closed the day with 10.09m (33-01.25) in the shot put for 491 points. With one day complete, Mayo remains firmly in the mix near the top of the standings as the decathlon continues.
The second day of events at the CC Championships from Gettysburg begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. as day two features the continuation of decathlon action, a bevy of scoring events as well as prelims for many track distances.
