HAVERFORD, Pa. — Haverford College squash athletes Francis Betkowski and Matilda Chartener were each named to the Liberty League Honor Roll following strong performances for the Fords at the Centennial Conference Round Robin.
Betkowski, a junior from Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, went 2-0 at the eighth flight for the 30th-ranked Haverford men's squash team, providing a steady presence against ranked opposition. In the morning match, Betkowski delivered a straight-game sweep of Dickinson's George Vollmer V, 11-5, 11-8, 11-5. He followed with another decisive outing in the afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory over Franklin & Marshall's Aman Nayyar (11-3, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4). Facing No. 25 Dickinson and No. 19 Franklin & Marshall, Betkowski's pair of wins at the same flight accounted for a key portion of Haverford's nine total individual victories on the day as the Fords built some momentum heading into the Liberty League Championships.
On the women's side, Chartener, a junior from Concord, Massachusetts, posted a perfect 2-0 record at the No. 8 flight for the 27th-ranked Haverford women's squash team. Chartener opened the day with a dominant 3-0 victory over Dickinson's Lauren Flowers (11-0, 11-2, 11-5), helping the Fords push the Red Devils to a narrow 5-4 decision. She followed with another commanding performance in the afternoon, sweeping Franklin & Marshall's Destiny Ponce 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 11-6). Competing against No. 23 Dickinson and No. 24 Franklin & Marshall, Chartener's back-to-back wins accounted for two of Haverford's seven individual victories on the day.
The Liberty League Honor Roll recognition reflects the consistent results delivered by Betkowski and Chartener against ranked opponents as the squash programs turn focus to the upcoming Liberty League Championships.
