CANTON, N.Y. — The No. 27 Haverford College women's squash team (6-10) delivered a commanding 8-1 victory over No. 28 William Smith (2-14) on Sunday afternoon in the third-place match at the Liberty League Championships inside the Robie Squash Center on the campus of St. Lawrence University.
Haverford opened the match with a point in the first flight via default, as Joelle Phuah was awarded the win over Jada Smith-Padmore.
The Fords carried momentum into the second rung of the ladder, where Zoe Liu defeated Jessica Finnerty, 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-9), in a composed straight-game performance. Julia Carrasco followed with another sweep in the third flight, topping Tamia Rollaing, 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-4).
On the fourth rung of the ladder, Avallina Orfield secured a 3-1 victory over Scarlett Sandoval (11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 11-5), while Ofri Geva added another point in the fifth flight with a 3-1 win against Kimberly Javier (11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5).
Amy Saxon continued the strong showing on the sixth rung of the ladder, earning a dominant 3-0 victory over Teghan Torrey (11-4, 11-5, 11-4). In one of the most competitive matches of the afternoon, Madeline Bulbulia prevailed in five games in the seventh flight, defeating Danie DeZart, 3-2 (11-5, 11-6, 11-13, 9-11, 11-3).
Matilda Chartener capped the team's scoring on the eighth rung of the ladder with a 3-0 sweep of Ashley Ambrosio (11-8, 11-3, 11-5).
William Smith's lone point came in the ninth flight, where Sadie Sanchez edged Sarah Kotapka in a five-game battle, 3-2 (12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8).
The Scarlet and Black will return to the GIAC Squash Courts for their final regular-season match, hosting Hamilton for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
