No. 27 Women's Squash Splits Day One of Liberty League Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – The No. 27 Haverford College women's squash team (5-10) went 1-1 in the first day of the Liberty League Championships inside the Robie Squash Center on the campus of St. Lawrence University. Haverford defeated No. 31 Vassar (4-15) by a score of 7-2, before falling to No. 21 Denison (9-3), 9-0.

Starting at the top of the ladder, Joelle Phuah set the tone in the first flight, dispatching Charlotte Tobin in straight games, 11–5, 11–7, 11–1, to give the Scarlet and Black early momentum. The second flight featured a tightly contested battle, as Hope Fireison outlasted Zoe Liu in four games, 11–6, 7–11, 13–11, 11–6. In the third flight, Adriana Ordaya continued the strong play, sweeping Julia Carrasco, 12–10, 12–10, 11–7.

Haverford regained firm control in the fourth flight, where Avallina Orfield applied steady pressure in a 3–0 victory over Sarah Boucher-Rowe, 11–8, 11–8, 13–11. The fifth flight saw Ofri Geva roll past Lexi Donshik in straight games, 12–10, 11–8, 11–1, before Amy Saxon dominated the sixth flight, conceding just eight total points in an 11–0, 11–6, 11–2 sweep of Ariadni Markantonaki Kouletaki.

The Fords continued to build their advantage in the seventh flight, where Madeline Bulbulia controlled play throughout an 11–2, 11–0, 11–2 victory over Iesha DeSilva. In the eighth flight, Matilda Chartener capped the run of sweeps with an 11–1, 11–8, 11–0 triumph against Lan Legros.

Haverford also secured the ninth rung of the ladder by default, as Sarah Kotapka was awarded the fiirst point to complete the 7–2 victory.

At the top rung of the ladder, Charlotte Jones set the tone in the first flight, sweeping Joelle Phuah, 11–6, 11–2, 11–4. The second flight followed a similar script, as Amelia Keng controlled play in an 11–4, 11–3, 11–4 victory over Zoe Liu. In the third flight, Helena Fournaris maintained the momentum, defeating Julia Carrasco in straight games, 11–5, 11–7, 11–4. DaNerah Chisholm continued the run in the fourth flight, topping Avallina Orfield, 11–8, 11–0, 11–3.

The fifth flight saw Madeleine Ruggie deliver another sweep, rolling past Ofri Geva, 11–2, 11–2, 11–5, before Lane Harding secured the sixth flight with an 11–6, 11–3, 11–4 win against Amy Saxon. At the seventh flight, Kate Manderlink posted an 11–3, 11–3, 11–3 victory over Madeline Bulbulia. The eighth flight belonged to Tess Lanza, who dispatched Matilda Chartener, 11–1, 11–3, 11–1. The match concluded on the ninth rung of the ladder, where Nicole Smith completed the sweep with an 11–5, 11–1, 11–5 victory over Sarah Kotapka.

Haverford women's squash will wrap up the Liberty League Championships on Sunday, February 15, against William Smith in the third place match at 10:30 a.m.
