COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Haverford College men's indoor track and field team turned in a strong showing at the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday, highlighted by a first place finish by Joseph De Rosa in the 5,000 meters, multiple personal bests, season-best performances, and a pair of top-three finishes in the middle-distance events.
In the 5,000 meters, Joseph De Rosa recorded a season-best 16:21.73 to claim first place. Jack McCurry finished third in 16:26.53, Gopal Patel earned a personal-best fourth in 16:27.39, Gabriel Bernstein finished fifth in 16:35.90, and Deven Abrams placed seventh in 16:50.82.
The meet opened in the 60-meter prelims, where Derek Linden led the Scarlet and Black, placing 46th with a time of 7.55. Jonah Hoffman-Weitsman finished 65th in 7.77, while first-year Kofi Kim posted a personal-best 7.87 to place 74th. Alex Geng crossed 77th in 7.92, and senior Hongyi Zhang recorded a personal-best 9.21, finishing 96th.
Samuel Lin turned in one of Haverford's top performances in the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the final with a time of 8.89 (5th) and improving to 8.58 in the final to earn third place overall.
In the 200 meters, Lin finished 26th in 24.29. Linden recorded a season-best 24.73 to place 35th, while Josue Laurore finished 43rd in 25.10. Hoffman-Weitsman placed 55th in 25.60, Xan White finished 60th in 25.83, Geng placed 69th in 26.35, and Zhang posted a season-best 31.49 to finish 87th.
In the 400 meters, Laurore finished 20th with a time of 55.43, while White placed 43rd in 59.90.
The middle-distance events were highlighted by first-year Wyatt Grace, who earned third place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.49. Liam Deimler placed eighth in 2:09.67, and Garrett Miyagawa finished 21st in 2:15.89.
Grace also led Haverford in the mile, finishing eighth in 4:40.54. Tate Sheehy placed 19th in 4:55.18, William Gray 29th in 5:20.68, and Benjamin Aaron 32nd in 5:31.94.
In the field events, Peter Beredjiklian represented the Fords in the long jump, placing 26th with a leap of 5.06 meters (16 feet, 7.25 inches). Joey Kim cleared 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11.75 inches) in the pole vault, earning fifth place and a personal-best performance.
In the men's shot put, Haverford was represented by two throwers. First-year Kyler Lee posted a personal-best mark of 10.25 meters (33 feet, 7.50 inches) to place 23rd, while first-year Kofi Kim finished 27th with a throw of 9.75 meters (32 feet).
Men's indoor track and field will once again compete in a two-meet week, participating in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., on Friday, February 13, followed by the Widener Indoor Classic at the Ott Center in Philadelphia, Pa., on Saturday, February 14, at 1:30 p.m.
