BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Haverford College men's distance medley relay closed out competition on Friday evening at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships with a 12th-place finish in a deep national field, clocking a time of 10:03.55.
The quartet of Micah Lachman, Thomas Fendig, Reef Kirchner, and Simon Lane combined for one of the squad's stronger efforts of the season in a tightly contested race that featured several nationally ranked programs. Lachman opened the relay with a 3:03.06 split over 1,200 meters, positioning the Fords in the middle of the pack early.
Fendig followed with a solid 49.59 split over 400 meters before Kirchner delivered a 1:55.69 effort in the 800-meter leg. Lane anchored the relay with a 4:15.22 mile to bring Haverford across the line in 10:03.55.
SUNY Geneseo captured the event title in a meet-record time of 9:42.65, narrowly ahead of Amherst (9:45.74) and Wartburg (9:45.77) in a race that saw the top six teams finish within five seconds of one another.
Haverford's stint at the indoor championships will wrap up Saturday as senior Jory Lee competes in the triple jump, with action slated to begin at the Birmingham CrossPlex at approximately 11 a.m. CT (12 p.m. ET).
