Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 26-ranked Haverford College men's tennis team (2-2) fell to No. 17 Carnegie Mellon (5-0) on Saturday afternoon in a morning matchup at Alumni Field House, wrapping up February with a highly anticipated ranked-versus-ranked clash.
Action began with doubles play. At first doubles, Brendan Hendrata and Diogo Tinoco defeated Marko Arboleda and Robbie Vazquez 6-3. In second doubles, Raghav Jangbahadur and Akshay Joshi overcame Teo Bortan and Stefan Johnson 6-4. Alex Feies and Takeshi Koey completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory over Niki Lavu and Caden Hsia, giving the Tartans the doubles point.
In singles, Haverford's lone match victory came from Lavu at the second flight, who rebounded after dropping the first set to defeat Diogo Tinoco 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 in a thrilling three-set match.
Hsia also put up a strong effort at sixth singles against Ian Miller, winning the second set but ultimately falling in a super tiebreak 5-7, 2-6, 13-15.
Other singles results saw Alex Feies defeat Arboleda 6-2, 6-2 at first singles, and Raghav Jangbahadur take down Vazquez 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at third singles. At fourth singles, Takeshi Koey secured a seesaw battle in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Bortan, while Brendan Hendrata claimed a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Aarush Kumar at fifth singles.
With another ranked test in the rear view, Men's Tennis will return to action on Wednesday, March 4, for its Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg at 4 p.m., before heading out on the spring break trip to Southern California, with matches beginning March 9.
