PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Haverford College men's track and field team had a memorable day inside the Ott Center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, highlighted by Thomas Fendig's record-breaking performance in the 200 meters.
Fendig delivered the headline performance of the day in the 200 meters, clocking a season-best 22.64 to place 25th overall.The mark breaks the Haverford College program record, surpassing Derek Sykora '98's previous time of 22.68. Fendig later returned to the track in the 400 meters, finishing 20th in 50.96.
In the 60-meter preliminaries, Niko Beros sprinted to a time of 7.25, placing 32nd overall. Samuel Lin represented the Fords in the 60-meter hurdles, taking 20th place with a time of 8.88. Beros also doubled back in the 200 meters, finishing 29th in 23.04.
Reef Kirchner paced Haverford in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:00.03 to finish 33rd.
The distance crew was led by Luke de Valpine in the 3,000 meters, as the junior secured a 10th-place finish in 8:41.16. Jakob Maiwald followed with a season-best 8:55.12 to take 28th overall.
In the field events, Jory Lee spearheaded the jumping efforts. The senior placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 6.57 meters (21 feet, 6.75 inches) and added a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 14.27 meters (46 feet, 10 inches). Mark Tringas recorded a 14th-place finish in the long jump at 6.38 meters (20 feet, 11.25 inches), while Jackson Juzang added a 22nd-place mark of 6.18 meters (20 feet, 3.50 inches).
The Fords will return to action on Friday, February 20, hosting the Keogh Invitational under the lights of the Alumni Field House. Events are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
