BOSTON – A trio of Haverford men's indoor track & field standouts took the stage at the prestigious David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday night at the BU Track & Tennis Center on the campus of Boston University, turning in impressive performances in a loaded mile field. Simon Lane, Micah Lachman, and Owen Bluman represented the Fords against some of the nation's top competition.
In a massive field of 283 competitors in the mile, Lane delivered one of the top Division III performances of the evening. Competing in heat 15, he placed second in his section with a time of 4:07.62 for 106th overall. Facing a bevy of Division I talent, Lane's mark now ranks ninth-fastest in program history, surpassing Seamus McElligott '91's time of 4:07.94 set on January 27, 1990.
Lachman also impressed, finishing second in heat 17 with a personal-best time of 4:10.97 for 148th place. His effort narrowly missed cracking the program's all-time top 10 list. Bluman rounded out Haverford's trio in heat 18, crossing the line in 4:14.14 for 196th, just shy of the personal record he established last weekend at the Fastrack National Invite.
After competing in one of the fastest and most competitive meets in the country at Boston University, Lane and Lachman will look to climb the Division III national rankings in the latest TFRRS listings following their standout performances, pending results from another packed weekend of competition nationally.
The rest of the Haverford contingent now returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 14 at the Widener Indoor Classic at the University of Pennsylvania's Ott Center. Action on the track is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.
