Beros Extends 60 Meter Record, as Men's Indoor Track & Field Compete at the Widener Schuylkill Showdown

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Haverford College men's indoor track and field team delivered a strong showing at the Widener Schuylkill Showdown, highlighted by an extension of the 60-meter program record. The two-day meet concluded inside the Ott Center on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon.

The 60 meters was once again the talk of the meet, as sophomore Niko Beros continued his standout indoor campaign. Beros clocked a personal-best time of 7.13 to place 23rd overall, surpassing his previous Haverford College program record of 7.16. The new mark is currently tied for the sixth-fastest time in the Centennial Conference. Jason Mayo also competed in the event, placing 45th with a time of 9.45.

Beros followed that performance with a season-best time of 23.02 in the 200 meters, finishing 25th and eighth all-time in Haverford College history.

The 60-meter hurdles featured a trio of Fords. Samuel Lin led the way with a 10th-place finish, crossing the line in 8.72. First-year Ian Lihani placed 15th in 9.02, while Alex Geng rounded out the group with a 21st-place finish in 9.66.

Haverford posted a strong showing in the 400 meters, led by Thomas Fendig's seventh-place finish. The sophomore surged to a season-best time of 49.57, which currently ranks as the No. 72 mark in Division III this season and is third-fastest in Haverford College history. Nico Greene followed with a season-best performance of 52.57 to place 28th.

In the 800 meters, Reef Kirchner paced the Fords with a seventh-place finish, running a season-best time of 1:58.31. Wyatt Grace added a personal-best performance of 2:03.09 to place 23rd.

The mile run featured a deep group of first-year runners for the Scarlet and Black. William Tew led the way with an eighth-place finish, recording a personal-best time of 4:25.06. Daniel Gordon followed closely in 10th at 4:27.20, while Cole Branstrom placed 13th in 4:30.59. Liam Deimler added a personal best of 4:40.85 to finish 28th, and Gabriel Bernstein followed with a personal-best time of 4:42.57 to place 29th.

Haverford also made a significant impact in the 5,000 meters. Luke de Valpine delivered one of the top performances of the meet for the Fords, placing third overall with a time of 14:56.55. The mark set a new Ott Center meet record and currently ranks No. 49 in Division III this season. Jakob Maiwald followed with a 10th-place finish, crossing the line in 15:35.55.

In the field events, Mark Tringas competed in the long jump, placing 19th with a leap of 6.21 meters (20 feet, 4.5 inches). Jory Lee represented the Fords in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a jump of 14.13 meters (46 feet, 4.25 inches).

The Fords capped the meet with an impressive effort in the 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet of Greene, Jordan Laurore, Lihani, and Fendig finished sixth overall with a time of 3:27.20. The performance ranks as a new Division III No. 78 time this season and closed the meet on a high note for the Scarlet and Black.

The Fords will be back in action on Friday, February 6, when they compete at the Fastrack National Invitational on Long Island, N.Y., with events beginning at 12 p.m.
