COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford Men's Indoor Track & Field team was represented by a smattering of distance runners and throwers at the Collegeville Classic on Sunday afternoon as action in the 3,000 meters and shot put was contested at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center on the campus of Ursinus.
The men's 3,000 meters proved to be a strength for the Fords with a large grouping of entrants. First-year
Wade Garoutte claimed first place overall, winning the event with a time of 9:13.42 in the opening heat. Sophomore
Nicky Elias-Gillette followed with a third-place finish and a personal-record time of 9:22.06. Rookies
Jack McCurry and
Gabriel Bernstein added top-six finishes, crossing the line in 9:31.66 and 9:36.74 to place fifth and sixth, respectively. Senior
Deven Abrams rounded out the scoring group with a seventh-place showing, clocking a personal-best 9:41.40.
Additional Haverford runners competed in the second heat of the 3,000 meters, as rookie
Ben Aaron finished 13th in 10:36.53, classmate
Garrett Miyagawa placed 14th at 11:04.68, and fellow rookie
Will Gray recorded a time of 11:12.80 to finish 16th.
In the men's shot put, Haverford was represented by two first-years.
Kofi Kim placed 11th with a top throw of 9.36 meters, measured at 30 feet, 8.5 inches.
Kyler Lee followed closely in 12th place, posting a best mark of 8.93 meters, or 29 feet, 3.75 inches.
The full contingent of Haverford student-athletes will return on Saturday, January 24 for the first home meet of the season, the Seamus McElligott Invitational. Events inside Alumni Field House are slated for a 10:30 a.m. start.
