HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team competed in the Main Line Invitational on the newly named Fran Rizzo Cross Country Course at Haverford College on Friday afternoon, placing seventh out of 10 teams with a score of 193 points. The Fords finished ahead of Division II Shippensburg, as well as Centennial Conference rivals Muhlenberg and Bryn Mawr.
Villanova claimed first place at the meet, followed closely by Penn in second. George Mason secured third, while Swarthmore was the top Division III program, finishing fifth overall.
Junior Alice Sappenfield led the way for the Scarlet and Black, placing 33rd overall with a time of 19:27.3. Anastasia Jaycobs followed closely behind in 34th, clocking in at 19:31.5. Savannah Shaw captured 40th place with a 19:42.7 finish, while Jessie Hausman crossed the line in 50th at 20:12.4.
The next wave of Fords included Poppy Chrisman (21:01.6) and Keiko Chinen (21:02.1), who placed 62nd and 63rd, respectively. Madeline Ruchelman made her collegiate 5k debut in 66th at 21:08.9, just ahead of Dalia Smid, who finished 69th with a time of 21:29.5.
Rounding out the Haverford contingent were Bianca Ortiz (75th, 21:45.5), Claire Parsons (87th, 23:41.3), Audrey Carter (88th, 23:42.8), Judy Xie (89th, 23:58.9), Adriana Rogow (90th, 24:10.1), and Natalie Kruglyak (94th, 24:54.2).
Next up, the women's cross country team will compete in the Paul Short Run on Friday, October 3, at 9:30 a.m. on the campus of Lehigh University.
Hosted annually by the Mountain Hawks, the event is considered one of the largest and most competitive cross country meets on the East Coast.
