HAVERFORD, Pa. — The 28th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team opened its 2025–26 campaign with a 9–0 setback to No. 3 University of Pennsylvania on Friday evening inside the GIAC Squash Courts. The match marked the opening round of Pennsylvania State Championships round-robin play.
A competitive battle unfolded in the top flight, but Penn's Malak Khafagy edged out Joelle Phuah, 11–4, 11–4, 11–5. In the No. 2 position, Zoe Liu fell to Franka Vidovic, 11–2, 11–3, 11–5.
Despite strong efforts from the Scarlet and Black, the Quakers swept flights three and four, as Alexandra Stoddard defeated Julia Carrasco, 11–0, 11–1, 11–1, and Anne Leakey prevailed over Avallina Orfield, 11–2, 11–1, 11–1. Penn continued its momentum in the fifth flight with Sasha Bauhs earning an 11–2, 11–1, 11–0 win over Amy Saxon.
In flight six, Paola Alice Lincou claimed an 11–4, 11–1, 11–4 victory over Madeline Bulbulia, while Nitza Kahlon earned an 11–3, 11–2, 11–1 win against Sarah Kotapka.
The Quakers closed out the match with victories in the final two flights, as Charlotte Oh defeated Tyler Kinkema, 11–2, 11–2, 11–3, and Madeline Oh earned an 11–2, 11–1, 11–1 win over Angelina Xu to complete the 9–0 result.
Haverford will continue play in the Pennsylvania State Championships on Saturday at Lancaster Country Day School, taking on Chatham at 9 a.m. before facing Drexel at 12 p.m.
