BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Haverford College women's cross country team competed at the annual Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon at the Goodman Cross Country Course on the campus of Lehigh University, racing in the Collegiate 6K White Race against a bevy of top Division III competition. The Fords finished 36th out of 45 teams in a competitive field of 404 total runners.
Junior Anastasia Jaycobs paced the squad, taking 162nd overall with a time of 23:14.1. She was followed by Grace Chen, who placed 190th in 23:28.6, while senior Jessie Hausman was next across in 23:35.5 for 205th. Senior Savannah Shaw came through in 23:40.2 for 213th, and junior Alice Sappenfield rounded out the scoring five with a 23:59.1 effort, good for 244th. Sappenfield finished just ahead of sophomore Maia Poremba, who matched the same time for 245th.
Also competing for Haverford in the collegiate race were first-years Madeline Ruchelman (25:00.8 and, Keiko Chinen (25:03.1), sophomore Dalia Smid (25:50.4), and junior Poppy Chrisman (26:22.4).
Earlier in the day's open race, which dotted the course in the morning, sophomore Bianca Ortiz led the way for the Fords, clocking 24:53.4 to finish 285th. She was followed by senior Sophia Furman (25:52.7), senior Audrey Carter (26:59.6), junior Claire Parsons (27:59.6), junior Judy Xie (28:05.6), sophomore Natalie Kruglyak (28:20.2), and first-year Adriana Rogow (29:31.4).
NYU took the overall team title in the collegiate race with 55 total points, well clear of second-place Carnegie Mellon and third-place SUNY Geneseo. Jules Bleskoski of RPI was the top individual finisher (20:20.8).
Rowan's Border Battle is next on the docket for the Fords, with Haverford taking to Gloucester, N.J. and the DREAM Park for the annual meeting of Metro and Mid-Atlantic region foes on Saturday, October 18.
