MADISON, N.J. - The Haverford College women's fencing team logged an eighth-place finish out of 14 teams at the 2026 National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association Championships (NIWFA) on Saturday at the Simon Forum on the campus of Drew University.
The competition followed a round-robin IFA format, with each fencer from one school facing every opponent from the other, totaling nine bouts per match. Based on these team results, 16 fencers in each weapon advanced to the individual portion of the day.
Nina Hamilton earned All-NIWFA Second Team honors in epee after finishing fifth overall, while Nina Chafee was named to the All-NIWFA Academic Team. Haverford placed fifth in epee, 10th in foil, and ninth in sabre, securing an eighth-place overall finish with 24 total points—just ahead of Division I NJIT (25) and Navy (27).
Temple captured the overall title, thanks in part to wins in foil and epee, while Johns Hopkins dominated sabre and took second overall. Tufts, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Stevens rounded out the top five.
Chafee, Hamilton, and Payton Wagner combined for 23 total victories in epee. The foil squad of Sophie Stamicar, Aanya Jeganathen, and Paige Copenhaver logged 13 wins, and the sabre trio of Eleni Antoniades, Eliza Kollett, and Carter Wood recorded 17 victories.
In the direct elimination individual tableaus, Sophie Stamicar represented foil but was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Sara Szverenyi of Fairleigh Dickinson. Hamilton, seeded second in epee, defeated Jungyun Yang of Army 15-6 before falling in the quarterfinals to Lauren Colella of Fairleigh Dickinson.
With conference championship weekend complete, Haverford will next compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals on Saturday, March 7. Select Fords fencers will compete inside Alumni Field House beginning at 9 a.m., with the full list of regional qualifiers to be announced early next week.
