ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Haverford College men's fencing team concluded the regular season Saturday at the United States Naval Academy, posting a 4-1 record at the MACFA C Round Robin with victories over Maryland, Navy, William & Mary and Stevens.
Johns Hopkins 16, Haverford 11
Haverford opened the day against Johns Hopkins. The Fords won epee, 7-2, behind Jack Richards (3-0), Eric Chen (2-1) and Ian Alvarez (2-1). Foil received a 3-0 record from Dean Myers and an additional win from Oliver Po. Johns Hopkins claimed sabre, 9-0, to secure the team result.
Haverford 22, Maryland 5
Haverford defeated Maryland, 22-5. Epee finished 8-1 with bout wins from Chen, Ezra Weintroub and Alvarez. Foil recorded a 9-0 sweep as Henry Bishop, Michael Pyo and Po each went undefeated. Sabre edged Maryland, 5-4, with victories from Osaretin Idahor, Andy Loo and Ryotaro Sakazaki.
Haverford 21, Navy 6
Against Navy, foil posted a 9-0 result with Myers, Pyo and Andrew Strayer each finishing 3-0. Epee matched that 9-0 margin behind Alvarez, Kenji Gullo and Richards. Navy won sabre, 6-3, despite individual wins from Sakazaki, Idahor and Yarosh.
Haverford 17, William & Mary 10
Haverford earned a 17-10 win over William & Mary. Foil opened with a 9-0 sweep as Strayer, Pyo and Henry Fedonchik each went 3-0. Epee received bout wins from Alvarez, Weintroub and Monto. Sabre secured a 6-3 advantage with victories from Robert Li, Loo and Greg Roumiantsev.
Haverford 17, Stevens 10
The Fords closed the day with a 17-10 decision over Stevens. Foil went 8-1 behind Myers, Strayer and Conrad Seib-Levinson. Sabre was tied at 4-4 before Yarosh won the final bout for a 5-4 weapon score. Epee contributed the remaining victories for a key result against a crucial Division III rival.Â
