HAVERFORD, Pa.
– The Haverford College men's fencing team competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships on Saturday inside Alumni Field House, hosting a field that featured programs from across the region vying for positions in the national selection process.
The regional championships brought together competitors from Penn State, Princeton, Duke, North Carolina, Penn, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette, Temple, NJIT, Stevens, Drew, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, and the host Fords.
First-year Oliver Po delivered the top performance for Haverford in men's foil, placing 10th overall in a competitive field. His finish also represented the highest placement among Division III competitors in the weapon at the regional meet.
Also competing in foil, Dean Myers finished 27th overall, while Michael Pyo placed 30th. Andrew Strayer recorded a 35th-place finish and Conrad Seib-Levinson finished 37th overall.
In men's epee competition, Eric Chen led the Fords with a 26th-place finish. Ian Alvarez followed in 42nd place, with Jack Richards finishing 44th and Kenji Gullo placing 46th.
Haverford's sabre representatives included Stephen Yarosh, who finished 37th overall, and Andy Loo, who placed 38th.
Results from the regional championships account for 60 percent of the formula used to determine selections for the NCAA National Fencing Championship, with regular-season results comprising the remaining 40 percent.
Selections for the NCAA National Fencing Championship will be announced on Tuesday, March 10 on the NCAA website.
This year's championship is scheduled to take place at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, from March 19 to 22. Women's competition will be held Thursday and Friday, followed by the men's events on Saturday and Sunday.
