BALTIMORE — The Haverford College men's fencing team, ranked eighth nationally among Division III programs in the latest USFCA midseason poll, competed in the MACFA A vs. C Bouts on Sunday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Fords fenced four duals, posting victories over Lafayette, Rutgers and Drew to open the final month of the regular season with a strong showing.
Haverford 21, Lafayette 6
Haverford delivered a complete performance against the Division I Leopards. Sabre dropped a narrow 6-3 decision, with Osaretin Idahor, Andy Loo and Stephen Yarosh each earning victories. The Fords then took firm control, as foil swept Lafayette 9-0 behind perfect 3-0 days from Henry Fedonchik, Dean Myers and Michael Pyo. Epee matched the effort with a 9-0 sweep, as Eric Chen, Jack Richards and Kenji Gullo each went 3-0.
Cornell 14, Haverford 13
An 8-1 result in epee paced Haverford's effort against the Big Red. Chen and Ian Alvarez both finished 3-0, while Richards added a 2-1 mark. Sabre accounted for one bout win from Greg Roumiantsev. In foil, Myers led with two victories, while Henry Bishop and Andrew Strayer each contributed one.
Haverford 17, Rutgers 10
Foil set the tone against Rutgers with an 8-1 win, as Oliver Po and Conrad Seib-Levinson each went 3-0 and Strayer added a 2-1 performance. Sabre followed with a 5-4 victory, highlighted by Yarosh's 3-0 day and a 2-1 showing from Idahor. Rutgers claimed epee 5-4, with Gullo posting two wins and Rocky Monto and Ezra Weintroub adding one apiece for the Fords.
Haverford 16, Drew 11
In a matchup with the Rangers, Haverford again found the edge. Foil earned a 6-3 decision behind Po's 3-0 mark and a 2-1 effort from Pyo, with Fedonchik adding a win. Sabre fell 6-3, though Idahor collected two victories and Yarosh added another. Epee sealed the dual with a 7-2 win, as Chen and Richards both went 3-0 and Gullo supplied the remaining point.
With another solid MACFA round-robin performance in the books, the Fords return home Saturday for Senior Day against Drew inside Gooding Arena. The dual is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., with the men's and women's fencing senior classes honored prior to the opening bout.
