NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Haverford College men's squash team (2-7), ranked No. 27 in the latest CSA Squash Rankings, fell to host No. 26 Connecticut College (4-7) on Sunday afternoon, concluding the Wesleyan/Connecticut College Round Robin.
The Camels raced to a 4-1 lead, powered by victories at the top and seventh flights. Henry Pelletier outlasted Aaryaman Jaising 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, while Hayden Okurowski prevailed in four games over Advait Chandramouli, 12-10, 11-8, 5-11, 12-10. Qianzhi Zhao provided an early bright spot for Haverford, taking a four-game win over Andrew Nemphos, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9.
Siddhant Rewari swept past Henry Jiang at the second flight (11-6, 11-7, 11-9), and Ward McGill defeated Francis Betkowski at the ninth flight (11-8, 15-13, 10-12, 11-8) to put the Camels on the verge of clinching the match.
Haverford mounted a valiant comeback, with Jet Li winning a thrilling five-game battle over Thomas Overton III at the fifth flight. Li and Overton traded games in a 41-minute match, with Li taking the first 11-7 before Overton responded with 13-11 and 11-8 wins. Li rallied to close out the match with 11-4 and 11-9 victories.
At the third flight, Kai Schinaman faced Adam Elkaliuoby. After Elkaliuoby dominated the first game 11-1, Schinaman rebounded to take the second 11-9, but Elkaliuoby closed out the match with 11-7 and 11-6 wins.
Noah Fish defeated Ben Leavy at the fourth flight (11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9), but Dean Ibrahim added a quick 23-minute sweep over Arman Sana at the eighth flight (11-6, 11-2, 13-11) for Haverford's third point.
After a weekend off, Haverford will return to action on Thursday, January 29, against No. 15 Navy at the GIAC Squash Courts, with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
