WALTHAM, Mass. – The Haverford College women's fencing team competed at the Carla-Mae Richards Invitational at Brandeis University on Sunday, fencing eight rounds against some of the top teams in the nation. The Fords went head-to-head with Penn State, Cornell, MIT, the host Judges, Lawrence, Boston College, Brown and Wellesley.
Round 1: Penn State 22, Haverford 5
Opening the morning against a formidable Penn State squad, Haverford earned wins in epee and sabre. Nina Hamilton delivered two victories in epee, with Olivia Rueger adding another. In sabre, Carter Wood and Eleni Antoniades each picked up wins.
Round 2: Cornell 26, Haverford 1
Haverford's lone victory came in epee, as Nina Chafee defeated Cornell's Anousheh Reid.
Round 3: MIT 25, Haverford 2
Against MIT, the Fords earned a pair of foil wins. Sophie Stamicar topped Jordyn Goldson and Sandra Luo.
Round 4: Brandeis 24, Haverford 3
Haverford collected one win in each weapon. Antoniades earned the sabre win, Hamilton secured the epee point and Stamicar delivered the foil victory.
Round 5: Lawrence 17, Haverford 10
Haverford picked up a weapon squad victory in sabre, winning 5–4, while epee narrowly fell 5–4. Wood led sabre with a 3–0 effort, and Antoniades added two wins. In foil, Paige Copenhaver earned a victory. The epee squad received wins from Rueger and Chafee and two more from Hamilton.
Round 6: Boston College 27, Haverford 0
The Eagles blanked the Fords, though Rueger and Wood turned in tight bouts.
Round 7: Brown 27, Haverford 0
Against Brown, Evelyn Penhoet and Chafee stood out in epee, recording four touches each in their bouts.
Round 8: Wellesley 25, Haverford 2
Haverford's wins came from Penhoet, who posted two victories in epee over Lily Millard and Renee Sun.
The Fords will return to competition in 2026 after finals and the holiday break, taking on the field at the Dave Michanik Penn Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, with action beginning at 8 a.m. in University City.
