HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's fencing team hosted the MACFA "B" vs. "C" bouts at Alumni Field House on Sunday. Haverford fenced four rounds, taking on Hunter, Army, NJIT, and Yeshiva after opening the slate with a bye, grabbing three victories.
Round 2: Haverford 26, Hunter 1
The Fords looked dominant against the Hawks of Hunter, taking an 8-1 decision in sabre and 9-0 sweeps in both foil and epee. Greg Roumiantsev went 3-0 while Andy Loo and Robert Li added a pair of victories. Ryotaro Sakazaki also picked up a win. Andrew Strayer, Conrad Seib-Levinson and Michael Pyo all went 3-0 to lead the foil effort, while Ezra Weintroub, Kenji Gullo and Raphael Yamamoto were unblemished for the Fords in epee.
Round 3: Haverford 16, Army 11
Facing off with the Black Knights of the United States Military Academy, Haverford took wins in foil (7-2) and epee (6-3) while falling in sabre by a 6-3 final. In foil, Oliver Po was 3-0 while Seib-Levinson and Dean Myers went 2-1 while in epee, Jack Richards picked up three epee victories, while Gullo added a pair and Eric Chen added one. Sabre's wins came from Stephen Yarosh who was victorious three times to pace the effort.
Round 4: NJIT 18, Haverford 9
Against the Division I Highlanders, the foil squad eeked out a 5-4 victory while epee fell 6-3 and sabre was defeated 8-1. In foil, the formidable trio of Myers, Pyo, and Po helped the Fords to the triumph, with Po and Myers each winning twice while Pyo picked up a win. In epee, Chen logged two wins while Ian Alvarez was also victorious. Osaretin Idahor was the winner for the sabre squad.
Round 5: Haverford 25, Yeshiva 2
Haverford was comprehensive in the victory over the Macabees, with Sabre and epee each taking 8-1 wins while Foil was a 9-0 victor. Sakazaki and Yarosh went 3-0 while Andy Loo added a pair of wins over Yeshiva. Seib-Levinson, Po and Strayer all were perfect in foil while the 8-1 epee decision included three wins from Weintroub and Yamamoto while Chen added a victory and Rocky Monto earned his first collegiate victory.
Men's Fencing will next be in action in two weks, heading to Waltham, Mass. and the campus of Brandeis University for the Carla May Memorial Invitational on December 7. The Fords will fence against the host Judges, Lawrence, Penn State, St. John's, Drew and Cornell.
