MADISON, N.J. - The Haverford College women's fencing team wrapped up its two-day stint at the Drew Invitational with wins over Lafayette, Long Island, Wheaton, and Detroit Mercy inside the Simon Forum on the campus of Drew University.
Wellesley 23, Haverford 4
In the opener against the Blue, Sophie Stamicar and Paige Copenhaver picked up wins in foil, while Evelyn Penhoet and Nina Chafee earned victories in epee.
Haverford 21, Lafayette 6
The Fords responded with a commanding 21-6 victory over the Leopards. Eliza Kollett, Carter Wood, and Sienna Chung each tallied wins in sabre, while Stamicar and Copenhaver added triumphs in foil. Nina Hamilton and Chafee both contributed a pair of epee victories to round out the effort.
Haverford 14, Long Island 13
The Fords edged the Sharks in a tense battle that featured a 7-2 win from the sabre squad and narrow losses in foil and epee. Wood (3-0) and Eleni Antoniades (2-1) came up clutch for sabre, with Kollett and Chung also adding key victories. Stamicar and Emely Polanco delivered foil wins, while Penhoet (2-1), Hamilton, and Chafee contributed in epee.
Stevens 20, Haverford 7
All of Haverford's wins against the Ducks came in sabre, with Wood again prevailing in each of her bouts while Kollett and Chung both added two victories in the round.
Haverford 21, Wheaton 4
Facing Wheaton for the second straight day, the Fords earned another decisive win, led by epee victories from Chafee and Hamilton against the Lyons.
Haverford 14, Detroit Mercy 13
The Fords were paced by a 7-2 epee decision, as Hamilton (2-0) led the way and Rueger and Penhoet added wins. Antoniades picked up two triumphs in sabre, while Wood and Chung also contributed victories.
Cleveland State 16, Haverford 11
Against the Vikings, Haverford's epee squad earned a 5-4 edge. Hamilton won 5-4 over Anna Kilminko, while Penhoet defeated Rayllen Prafil Capaccio, 4-2. Kollett, Wood, and Chung also recorded wins in sabre.
With the first team competition weekend of the regular season in the books, Haverford now returns to action on Saturday, November 22, for the annual alumnae bouts inside the Andy Kates Fencing Salle.
