HAVERFORD, Pa. — The 28th-ranked Haverford College men's squash team opened the 2025–26 campaign with a 9–0 setback against the nation's top-ranked team, the University of Pennsylvania, on Friday evening inside the GIAC Squash Courts. The match marked the first round of Pennsylvania State Championships round-robin play.
In the top flight, Penn's Omar Hafez defeated Henry Jiang—making his debut at No. 1—by a score of 11–4, 11–4, 11–4. At No. 2, Ben Levy fell to Kyle Penman, 11–2, 11–6, 11–3.
Penn's Will Newman secured the third flight with an 11–1, 11–2, 11–1 win over Qianzhi Zhao, while in the fourth flight, Varun Chitturi turned away Francis Betkowski, 11–4, 11–2, 11–2.
Hao Cui claimed the fifth flight for Penn with an 11–2, 11–3, 11–2 victory over Arvin Krishnan, and Jat Tse won the sixth flight by defeating Dean Ibrahim, 11–0, 11–5, 11–5.
At No. 7, Ben Mathias earned an 11–3, 11–6, 11–4 win over Wayne Hsu, while Henry Fogel took the eighth flight, defeating Nevin Mital, 11–3, 11–4, 11–7.
The most competitive match of the evening came at the ninth flight, where Daniel Braun battled through a tight second game that went to extra points before ultimately falling to Phillip Dartnell, 11–8, 12–10, 11–2, to close out the 9–0 result for the Quakers.
Haverford continues Pennsylvania State Championships action on Saturday at Lancaster Country Day School, opening the day against Chatham at 9 a.m. before returning to the courts at 2 p.m. to face Dickinson.
