BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Haverford College men's cross country team finished 22nd in the Paul Short Run's White Race, taking to the course at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus on Friday afternoon against some of the top Division III talent in the country. The race featured 45 teams and 407 finishers.
Senior Micah Lachman led the Fords with an impressive 22nd-place overall finish, crossing the 8K course in 24:56.6. The low stick for the Fords was followed by junior Luke de Valpine, who finished 116th in 25:53.3. Junior Owen Bluman placed 137th in 26:02.1, while first-year Simon Lane was Haverford's fourth finisher in 156th (26:16.1). Senior Jakob Maiwald rounded out the scoring for Haverford in 160th place (26:18.2).
Just outside the scoring positions, junior Torin Pelton-Flavin finished 172nd (26:24.2), and first-year Will Tew was 192nd (26:30.1). Other Haverford finishers included first-years Raine Guidarelli (27:02.6) and Cole Branstrom (27:16.5), along with sophomore Reef Kirchner (27:52.8).
The overall race was won by NYU in a commanding effort, with the Violets outpacing Amherst 54 to 101. Carnegie Mellon was third with 183 total points. Will Shuflit of Colorado College was the individual winner in 24:09.9, well clear of Nathan Tassey of Roger Williams in second.
In Friday morning's open race, a large group of Haverford entrants was paced by Wade Garoutte, who finished 236th overall (26:23.7). Other Haverford entrants to finish included Joseph DeRosa (26:42.4), Oliver Barr (27:07.8), Will Root (27:08.5), Nicky Elias-Gillette (27:27.8), Gopal Patel (27:35.2), Jack McCurry (27:35.4), Deven Abrams (27:49.8), Cullen Worth (27:53.3), Wyatt Grace (28:24.4), Liam Deimler (28:47.7), Gabriel Bernstein (29:08.8), Will Gray (29:22.2), and Josue Laurore (30:26.7).
Next up for the Fords is Rowan's annual Border Battle meet. Haverford will compete at Gloucester, N.J., at the DREAM Park for the annual meeting of Metro and Mid-Atlantic region rivals on Saturday, October 18.
