Men's Track & Field Prepped for Conference Championships

Centennial Championships Central

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team heads into this weekend's Centennial Conference Championships on the Collegeville, Pa. campus of Ursinus College looking to capture the conference crown for the first time since the 2013 campaign.

Haverford has never finished below second place at the conference meet after finishing as runner-up a season ago. The Fords have 26 projected scorers based on seed times and marks and can make an impression on the conference landscape up and down the schedule. Events begin at 2 p.m. on Friday with the pole vault and continue through Sunday afternoon.

Top-seeded Fords include Dylan Gearinger, who is the top seeded entrant in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m. Gearinger, the reigning Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week, looks to again capture the outdoor 10,000-meter championship on Friday night. Ryan Herlihy is also a projected scorer for the Fords in the longest distance event of the weekend.

The 5,000-meter field features a bevy of Fords including projected scorers Gearinger, Greg Morgan, Graham Peet and Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe. The 3,000-meter steeplechase sees senior James Stadler with the top seed while Peet and Lincoln Satterthwaite are also projected scorers. In the 1,500 meters, Greg Morgan checks in as the second-seeded individual after representing Haverford at the NCAA Division III Championships in the event a season ago. Woods and James Barker are also projected scorers in the event.

Liam Lynch is the top seed in the 800 meters and will look to add to an already decorated career in the Centennial meet. Lynch has captured three consecutive indoor 400 meter titles. Chris Goings is also a projected scorer for Haverford in the 800 meters. Gene Perry is a strong second seed in the 400-meter dash, looking to unseat an entrant from defending champion Johns Hopkins. Zach Oji will again be a hurdles specialist for the Fords, with projected scoring seeds in both the 400 meter and 110 meter hurdles.

Haverford's relay squads (4x100, 4x400 and 4x800) all scored at the conference meet a season ago and will look to continue that success in 2018. The 4x100 meter team comes in with the eight-fastest seed time while the 4x400 meter team is the sixth-fastest in the conference.

In field events, Andrew Lummus is the top-seeded entrant in the triple jump after an impressive start to his first-year campaign. His career-best jump of 13.24 meters at the Chester Quarry Classic last Month broke into the top 10 in Haverford program history. Lummus also captured the triple jump title at the Haverford Mid-Week dual meet with Widener.

In the high jump, Jack Brower and Cameron Albrecht are both expected to score for the Fords while Greg Van Aken is a projected scorer in the pole vault. Josiah Legaspi is the seventh-seeded hammer thrower in the Conference.

All the action on the track will be streamed live on CentennialConference.tv courtesy of Ursinus Athletics. Live timing and a full schedule of events for the weekend is available via the Championship Central page.
