SWARTHMORE, Pa. — The Haverford College men's tennis team opened its 2026-27 campaign with 20 victories during the Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational, contested Friday and Saturday on the campus of Swarthmore College.
The weekend featured hidden-dual competition against Swarthmore, Vassar and Stevens. No team scores were recorded. Haverford collected 14 singles victories and six doubles wins, highlighted by the first collegiate victories for first-years David Jin and Will Geske.
Haverford vs. Swarthmore
The Fords began the weekend with three doubles victories against host Swarthmore. Teo Bortan and Jin secured a 7-5 victory, while Owen Kilmer and Geske prevailed in a tightly contested 7-6 (6) decision. The results represented the first collegiate victories for Jin and Geske. Lucio Kombo and Caden Hsia added a 6-2 doubles win.
First-year Dhruv Anantaraman also made his collegiate debut alongside Zach Miano, with the pairing narrowly falling in a 7-6 (3) decision. Haverford added two singles victories behind Marko Arboleda and Bortan. Arboleda claimed a 7-6 (6), 6-2 result, while Bortan rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Haverford vs. Vassar
Haverford opened Saturday's action by earning eight victories against Vassar, including six in singles competition. Geske and Hsia teamed for a 6-2 doubles win, while Noah Wolff and Alejandro Rodriguez delivered a 6-3 victory. Jin battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 triumph for his first collegiate singles victory. Geske followed his first collegiate doubles win by securing his first singles victory with a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Kombo prevailed 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Rodriguez earned a 6-0 victory, Wolff won 6-2 and Chait Krishna posted a 6-1 result.
Haverford vs. Stevens
The Fords concluded the invitational with seven victories against Stevens. Bortan and Robbie Vazquez supplied Haverford's doubles win with a 6-2 decision.
Arboleda completed an unbeaten singles weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, while Kilmer earned a 7-5, 6-1 result. Geske rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 win, giving the first-year a team-high four combined victories during his collegiate debut weekend. Kombo added a dominant 6-1, 6-3 win, Rodriguez prevailed 7-6 (3), 6-3 and Krishna rounded out the weekend with a 5-3 victory.
With an opening weekend of action now beind them, the Fords return to action Saturday, Sept. 26, traveling to Bloomsburg, Pa., for the Husky Invitational on the campus of Bloomsburg University.
