GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Haverford College women's track & field team opened competition at the Centennial Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at Musselman Stadium on the campus of Gettysburg College. Day one was highlighted by a record-breaking and silver-medal performance from first-year Taniya Denson in the pole vault. After one day of events, the Fords currently sit in seventh place with eight points.
Denson captured the silver medal in the pole vault, clearing 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11.75 inches) to post a new personal best while extending her own school record. Her mark also moved her into No. 36 nationally in Division III, earning eight team points for the Fords.
Haverford also saw a full slate of performances across distance events, field events, and the heptathlon on day one. In the 10,000 meters, Grace Chen led the Fords with a 10th-place finish in 40:47.30. Audrey Carter followed in 15th with a personal-best time of 42:15.91, while Keiko Chinen placed 18th in 43:19.40 and Claire Parsons finished 20th in 45:10.28.
In the hammer throw, Sarah Wilcher recorded a 12th-place finish with a toss of 39.26 meters (128 feet, 9 inches).
Adriana Rogow competed across four events in the heptathlon, beginning with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 19.10. She followed with a seventh-place showing in the 200 meters (30.43), added a sixth-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 1.38 meters (4 feet, 6.25 inches), and placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 5.54 meters (18 feet, 2.25 inches). Rogow currently sits in eighth place with 1566 points, with several more events to go.
The Fords will return to action on Saturday for the final day of competition, with additional field events and running finals set to conclude the Centennial Conference Championships.
