HAVERFORD, Pa. – First-year distance standout Simon Lane (Chicago, Ill. / UChicago Laboratory Schools) has been named the Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week following a standout performance at the Sam Howell Distance Carnival at Princeton University on Saturday evening.
Lane competed in the seeded 5,000-meter race against a field loaded with Division I talent and emerged as the top Division III finisher in the event, placing sixth overall with a time of 14:21.86. His mark currently ranks fifth among all Division III performers this season.
Racing under the lights in a highly competitive section, Lane's time narrowly missed entry into Haverford's all-time top 10 list, as he finished just behind marks set by Liam O'Neil '86 and Charlie Marquardt '16.
Lane, an individual qualifier for the cross country national championships in the fall, and a member of Haverford's distance medley relay squad that reached indoor nationals this winter, is again off to an extremely strong early-season trajectory. The Fords will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 at West Chester's Bill Butler Invitational.
