Denson Extends Pole Vault Record in Impressive Day at Bill Butler Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The Haverford College women's track & field team turned in a well-rounded performance at the Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by another record-breaking effort from first-year Taniya Denson in the pole vault alongside numerous personal-best and season-best marks across the meet.

Denson led the Scarlet and Black with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.51 meters (11 feet, 6.25 inches) to set a new Haverford program record and move into No. 47 in Division III this season. She also contributed on the track, helping the 4x100 relay team of Nadine Tang, Olivia D'Aulerio, Beatrice Di Girolamo, and Denson to a second-place finish and season-best 51.38. The Fords also placed second in the 4x400 relay as Anna Berry, Anastasia Jaycobs, Ellie Casucci, and D'Aulerio combined for 4:08.26.

The sprints featured multiple Haverford performances across the board. Tang placed eighth in the 100 meters in 12.90 after a season-best 12.87 in the prelims. Taylor Allert finished 17th in the prelims with 14.03, while Abigail Miyake was 23rd with 14.67. In the 200 meters, Tang took 11th in 27.09, Allert placed 27th in 29.33, and Miyake finished 29th with a personal-best 29.47.

The 400 meters saw Berry place sixth with a personal-best 1:00.95, followed by Greaton in 10th with a personal-best 1:04.47, Furman in 12th with a personal-best 1:06.96, and Strutton in 16th at 1:10.93. Sappenfield added a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:09.28.

The Fords dominated the 800 meters, led by Jaycobs in first place with a season-best 2:15.67, ranking No. 42 in Division III this season. D'Aulerio followed second in 2:16.21, ranking No. 51 in Division III while also moving to ninth all-time in Haverford history in the event. Telleen placed fifth with a personal-best 2:19.48, Priest crossed eighth with a personal-best 2:20.94, Shaw finished 10th at 2:24.91, and Poremba rounded out the group 11th with a personal-best 2:25.25.

The 1500 meters featured another deep showing from Haverford, as Shaw placed second with a personal-best 4:50.03, Poremba fourth at 4:59.21, Hausman fifth with a personal-best 5:00.52, Baraki 14th at 5:23.96, Carter 15th with a personal-best 5:24.72, Ortiz 21st at 5:30.17, Ruchelman 25th with a personal-best 5:39.44, Parsons 29th with a personal-best 5:44.38, Xie 30th at 5:50.28, Chrisman 31st at 5:50.75, and Kruglyak 33rd at 6:05.98.

In the hurdles, Di Girolamo placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.65 after running 16.46 in the prelims, while Rogow finished 12th at 20.29. Di Girolamo also placed fourth in the long jump with 4.92 meters (16 feet, 1.75 inches), while Rogow took 20th with 3.01 meters (9 feet, 10.50 inches), before placing 21st with a distance thrown of 5.23 meters (17 feet, 2.00 inches) in the shot put. 

Haverford will return to action on April 17 and 18 in Chester, Pa. for the Paul Donahue Invitational. Friday events will begin at 5 p.m., while Saturday events will begin at 10 a.m.
