Jackson Sgro Named to Small College Baseball Player of the Year Watch List

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College sophomore shortstop Jackson Sgro (Hopewell, N.J.) has been named to the Division III watch list for the Small College Baseball Player of the Year Award, the organization announced this week. The newly created award recognizes the top player across small college baseball, bringing together standouts from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NJCAA, and other collegiate associations under one national honor.

Announced earlier this year, the Small College Baseball Player of the Year award was created to spotlight elite performers outside of Division I. While the Golden Spikes Award recognizes the top player at the Division I level, the SCBPOTY aims to provide a similar national platform for athletes competing across the other collegiate divisions.

Selections for the award are based on statistical performance, impact on team success, and overall excellence throughout the season. By drawing from a wide pool of programs—from junior colleges to four-year institutions—the award seeks to highlight the top talent across small college baseball.

Sgro earned national recognition during a historic freshman campaign in 2025. He was named the D3baseball.com National Rookie of the Year while also earning Second-Team All-America honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com.

Additionally, he was selected as the D3baseball.com Region 5 Rookie of the Year, earned ABCA First-Team All-Region honors, and was named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year while collecting First-Team All-Centennial Conference recognition.

In his debut season, Sgro hit .442 with 50 hits, 30 runs, 11 doubles, 11 home runs, and 43 RBIs while posting a .504 on-base percentage and .832 slugging percentage. His batting average led the Centennial Conference and ranked 13th nationally in Division III.

He recorded six games with at least three hits, including a four-hit performance against Ursinus College, and delivered multi-home run games against Salisbury University and Muhlenberg College. During the Centennial Conference Tournament, Sgro homered in each game while driving in three runs in every contest. Defensively, he also finished second on the team with 71 assists at shortstop.

Through the first seven games of the 2026 season, Sgro has started every contest for the Fords, hitting .333 with nine hits, including three doubles, in 27 at-bats.

The Division III watch list highlights several of the nation's top returning players entering the 2026 season. Among those also recognized were standout hitters Liam Daly of Purchase College and James Domer of University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, who both led the nation with a .496 batting average in 2025. Erik Sundgren of Adrian College paced the nation with 81 RBIs while also ranking among the national leaders in both home runs and stolen bases.

The list also includes two-way standout Ben Prather of Centre College, along with pitchers Evan Scully of Endicott College, Gibby Sullivan of Bates College, Kai Gonzalez of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Kody Perry of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, and Ryan Kramer of College of Wooster, all of whom have also been recognized for strong performances entering the 2026 campaign.
