MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The 28th-ranked Haverford College (2-5) women's squash team competed in the opening game of the Connecticut Round Robin, falling 9-0 to Liberty League foe No. 21 Denison (4-2) on Friday afternoon. The neutral-site match took place at the Rosenbaum Squash Center on the campus of Wesleyan University.
Starting with the top flight, Charlotte Jones battled Joelle Phuah, controlling the tempo throughout a 3–0 result (11–3, 11–4, 11–3) to put the Big Red on the board. Denison continued its momentum on the second rung of the ladder, where Amelia Keng got past Zoe Liu in three games (11–6, 11–1, 11–0).
The third flight featured some of the tightest rallies of the day, but Helena Fournaris closed out each game to earn a 3–0 decision over Julia Carrasco (11–9, 11–8, 11–5). On the fourth rung of the ladder, DaNerah Chisholm downed Avallina Orfield (11–4, 11–7, 11–5).
The Big Red extended its advantage in flight five, as Madeleine Ruggie picked up a 3–0 result against Ofri Geva (11–3, 11–3, 11–2). The sixth rung of the ladder saw Kate Manderlink deliver a sweep over Amy Saxon (11–4, 11–1, 11–2).
In the lower half of the ladder, Lane Harding turned in a 3–0 outcome over Madeline Bulbulia (11–1, 11–4, 11–2). Tess Lanza followed in the eighth flight with an 11–3, 11–1, 11–1 result against Matilda Chartener.
The match concluded on the ninth rung of the ladder, where Nicole Smith defeated Sarah Kotapka (11–2, 11–0, 11–0).
The Fords will return to action on Saturday, January 17, when they will resume the Connecticut Round Robin with a match against No. 19 Wesleyan (Conn.) at 10:00 a.m.
