HAVERFORD, Pa. — Haverford College shortstop
Jackson Sgro has been named the Baseball Collegian Co-Freshman of the Year, the magazine announced Sept. 10. He shares the honor with Ian Oehlschlaeger of RPI and was also selected to the publication's Freshman All-American Team.
The recognition caps a historic debut season for Sgro (Hopewell, N.J.), who was previously named D3baseball.com Rookie of the Year and earned second-team All-America honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com. He became the first Haverford player to claim a national "of the year" award from the outlet.
Sgro established himself as one of the Centennial Conference's most dangerous hitters in 2025, leading the league with a .442 batting average while collecting 50 hits, 30 runs, 11 doubles, 11 home runs, and 43 RBI. He posted a .504 on-base percentage and an .832 slugging percentage, ranking 13th nationally in batting average, 17th in home runs per game (0.37), and 20th in RBI per game (1.43).
The rookie recorded 19 multi-hit games, highlighted by a four-hit performance at Ursinus on April 18 and a six-RBI outing against Washington College the following day. He closed his freshman year with home runs in each of his final three games during the Centennial Conference Tournament, helping the Fords advance to the championship final.
