HAVERFORD, Pa. — Haverford College men's lacrosse senior Matt Richards has been named a USILA Scholar All-American, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. In addition to Richards' individual recognition, the Haverford men's lacrosse team earned the USILA Scholar Team Award, leading all of Division III with the highest team GPA.
The USILA Scholar All-American program honors the top student-athletes in the nation with senior academic standing, recognizing excellence both on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must hold a GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet one of the following criteria: All-American, Senior All-Star Game participant, or all-conference selection.
Richards, a native of Middletown, R.I., capped off a standout senior season by leading the Fords with 61 points, including a team-best 44 goals and 17 assists. He finished the season ranked second in the Centennial Conference in goals and fifth in total points.
A consistent contributor throughout his career, the attacker started 54 games, including all 16 contests in 2025. He concluded his collegiate career with 125 goals, ranking seventh all-time in program history. This season, he recorded three or more goals in eight different games, highlighted by a six-goal, three-assist performance against McDaniel on March 21 and a season-high seven-goal outing against Muhlenberg on April 19.
The senior also reached a major career milestone on March 14, scoring his 100th career goal against Rhodes. In addition to his offensive production, he contributed defensively with 41 ground balls—tied for third on the team—and five caused turnovers, rounding out a stellar two-way campaign.
Haverford's team GPA of 3.767 was the highest among the 54 Division III institutions honored with the USILA Scholar Team Award. The Fords were joined by Lenoir-Rhyne University (Division II) and Harvard University (Division I) as the top academic programs in their respective divisions.
The USILA recognizes teams with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher and awards Scholar All-American honors to individuals who meet both academic and athletic standards.
In 2025, the Fords increased their overall win total from last season by two wins (nine wins, the most since the 2011 season) and reached their best start in school-history at 8-1 overall through the first nine contests.
