INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released its initial Division III field hockey NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings of the 2025 season on Monday afternoon, with the Haverford College field hockey team checking in at No. 14 in the first national release. The NPI is a system that compiles the division's statistical data and objectively applies the sport committee's weighted selection criteria. The index is calculated using a combination of factors, including winning percentage, strength of schedule, home/away multiplier, and quality win bonus.
The 2025 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship will feature a 28-team field composed of two selection pools: automatic qualifiers (AQs) and at-large berths. For the upcoming championship, 18 berths have been designated for automatic qualifiers, while 10 at-large spots will be awarded to the top remaining programs in the final NPI not receiving an AQ. These numbers are subject to change until final selections are made.
Following the conclusion of all games on Sunday, Nov. 9, the selection committee will determine the 10 at-large participants based on the highest-ranked teams in the NCAA Power Index.
Haverford is off to the best start in program history at 9-1, with victories over the NPI's 16th-ranked Rowan, 25th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, and 49th-ranked SUNY Cortland. The Fords return to action Wednesday, Oct. 8, with a 7 p.m. matchup at Swan Field against Centennial rival Ursinus (NPI No. 39), as they look for the program's first-ever victory over the Bears.
