Field Hockey Takes Fright Out of Green Terror in 6-1 Triumph

Haverford improved to 9-1, marking the best 10-match start in program history.

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College field hockey team extended its unbeaten run in Centennial Conference play with a 6-1 victory over McDaniel on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field. The Fords (9-1, 3-0 CC) scored in every quarter and used a balanced attack to secure the best 10-game start in program history.

The hosts struck first in the opening frame after forcing back-to-back penalty corners. Erica Pardón, stationed near the left post, finished off an insert from Poppy Swallow at 8:45 for her seventh goal of the season. The Green Terror (4-6, 0-2 CC) managed to hold off further damage, with goalkeeper Lora Scarangello denying a hard drive from Holly Vincent, but Haverford carried a 1-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Fords doubled the margin midway through the second period. Alice Stein scored her seventh of the year at 26:09 on a feed from Vincent, who controlled the rebound near the top of the circle and set up the finish. Less than two minutes later, Abigail Trapp scored her first goal of the season by sweeping home a loose ball following Pardón's initial salvo off a corner.

McDaniel briefly shifted momentum in the third. At 33:06, Charley Noah calmly knocked a corner insert from Kelsey Jennings into the cage, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The response from the Fords was immediate. Trapp notched her second goal of the contest just over a minute later, slotting home a goal on a penalty corner play from Naomi York. York then finished her own scoring chance at 36:08, cashing in her eighth of the year off another entry from Swallow to make it 5-1.

The Fords closed the scoring early in the fourth quarter. Trapp inserted a corner at the 51:31 mark, and after a clean stop from McDaniel goalie Scarangello, Louisa Coughlin ripped home her fourth of the season for a 6-1 advantage.

Haverford's back line limited McDaniel to just four shots after halftime, with goalkeeper Lindsey Darby starting the second half, making a key save on Noah in the 57th minute. The Fords finished with a 25-10 edge in shots and an 11-6 margin in penalty corners.

Pardón helped pace the attack with a goal, an assist, and five total shots. Trapp scored twice on two attempts, while York contributed a goal and an assist on a game-high eight shots. Coughlin and Stein each added goals as Haverford showcased its depth with every player on the roster seeing the field on Saturday afternoon.

Noah led McDaniel with a goal on five shots, while Jennings registered the lone assist. Scarangello finished with six saves as the Green Terror dropped their second straight conference contest.

Haverford now returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 8, with a 7 p.m. matchup at Swan Field against Centennial rival No. 23 Ursinus with the Fords looking for the program's first-ever victory over the Bears.
