PHILADELPHIA AND FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Haverford College men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington, while action at Saint Joseph's continued on Hawk Hill.
ITA Southeast Regional Championships
Singles
Robbie Vazquez earned a victory in the consolation quarterfinals, defeating Todd Cannaliato of Washington and Lee, 8-6, in a pro set to advance to the semifinals against Ayaan Choudhary of Virginia Wesleyan. Vazquez prevailed again, 8-4, moving on to the finals against Lalith Suresh of Swarthmore. Suresh edged past the Haverford rookie, 8-6, to claim the consolation bracket.
In the B1 consolation bracket, Chait Krishna delivered an 8-3 victory over Shayaan Farhad of Moravian to set up a consolation final against Braden Chavez of Carnegie Mellon. Chavez won the match, 8-6.
In the B2 bracket, Zach Miano opened Saturday morning with a tiebreaker victory over Federico Maccari of Roanoke, 8-7 (7-3), to reach the consolation semifinals against Vincenzo Marchese of Randolph. Miano was victorious, 8-5, advancing to the consolation final against Will Secord of Carnegie Mellon. Secord captured that matchup, 8-1.
In the B3 consolations, Stefan Johnson defeated Aidan Meehan of Mary Washington, 8-2, and Keldibek Kozhoev of Mary Washington, 8-6. Johnson then met Ryan Good of Washington and Lee in the consolation final, where Good earned an 8-5 victory to end Johnson's run.
Doubles
In the B1 doubles flight, Aarush Kumar and Krishna defeated Sam Halvorsen and Ivan Ceric of Christopher Newport, 8-3, to advance to the semifinals against Marchese and Carlos Haupt of Randolph. The Haverford pairing prevailed again, 8-5, setting up a finals battle against Casey Coffey and Dillon McReynolds of Hampden-Sydney. The Fords captured the bracket championship with an 8-4 victory.
In championship consol action, the pairing of Owen Kilmer and Johnson earned a consolation quarterfinal win over Alex Seretis and Nathan Russell of Christopher Newport, prevailing in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-1). The team of Teo Bortan and Vazquez won 8-2 over Maccari and Macedo of Roanoke. Meanwhile, Niki Lavu and Miano recorded an 8-5 victory over Jamison Wallace and Rainer Christiansen of Christopher Newport before posting an 8-1 win over Jack Gelman and Hugh Outwater of Franklin and Marshall.
Saint Joseph's Invitational
Singles
Closer to home at Saint Joseph's, Caden Hsia faced Evan Ancu of Villanova in the black singles bracket, with Ancu prevailing, 7-5, 6-1. Alejandro Rodriguez defeated Ethan Solop, 8-3, in a pro set to advance to a matchup with Sadhista Linga of NJIT. Linga won, 8-4, ending Rodriguez's consolation run.
Lucio Kombo fell to Oliver Aguilar of Temple, 6-4, 6-3, while Arnav Nemali dropped his match against Ryan Benoit of Villanova, 6-1, 6-3.
Doubles
The doubles team of Maxfield Ma and Rodriguez fell to Saint Joseph's duo Barnes and Fullone, while Hsia and Kombo advanced via walkover against Temple's Pennabadi and Rees. The pair advanced to take on John Butler and Mark Rubin of Saint Joseph's delivering a 6-2 triumph on Sunday morning. The Fords' pairing then advanced to the consol finals against Barnes and Fullone, falling in a thriller, 7-6 [7-5] to wrap up the slate.Â
