PHILADELPHIA and FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College men's tennis team competed Friday on the second day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington, while select entrants opened play at the Saint Joseph's Invitational in Philadelphia.
ITA Southeast Regional Championships
Singles
In championship singles, Niki Lavu advanced to the Round of 16 after a straight-set victory over Carnegie Mellon's Daniel Kong, 6-3, 6-4. He then fell to second-seeded Michael Melnikov of Swarthmore, 6-1, 6-2.
Robbie Vazquez earned back-to-back wins in consolation play, defeating Franklin & Marshall's Zac Ashtiani, 8-6, and Goucher's Benedikt Rummel, 8-3. Vazquez moves on to face Todd Cannaliato of Washington and Lee in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday at 12:05 p.m.
Owen Kilmer dropped an 8-5 consolation pro set to Lalith Suresh of Swarthmore.
In the B1 singles flight, Chait Krishna fell in his opener to Cooper Lehman of Mary Washington. He will face Lynchburg's Daniel Gomes Ribeiro in consolation play Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
In B2 singles, Teo Bortan battled through a three-set match with Lucas Beasley of Shenandoah, taking the first set 6-3, dropping the second 7-5, and winning the super tiebreaker 10-5. In the quarterfinals, he split sets with Swarthmore's Seth Sadikov, falling 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 in the decider.
Zach Miano fell to Johns Hopkins' Pranav Gadiraju, 6-1, 6-1, and will meet Federico Maccari of Roanoke in the consolation bracket Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
In B3 singles, Stefan Johnson was defeated by Washington and Lee's Harrison Silver, 6-3, 6-3. Johnson faces Mary Washington's Aidan Meehan in consolation play Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Doubles
In championship doubles, the team of Owen Kilmer and Stefan Johnson fell to Mary Washington's Ryan Gipner and Ryan Battaglia, 8-4. They will face Swarthmore's Michael Melnikov and Pranav Koduri in consolation play Saturday at 9 a.m.
Bortan and Vazquez dropped an 8-5 decision to Swarthmore's Nikola Galov and Nicholas Choo. They will play Roanoke's Federico Maccari and Nolan Macedo in consolation Saturday at 9 a.m.
The pairing of Lavu and Miano defeated Catholic's James Earwood and Diego Romo, 8-4, before falling to second-seeded Johns Hopkins duo Chakor Sankaran Rajendra and Allen Gong, 8-2. Lavu and Miano meet Christopher Newport's Jamison Wallace and Rainer Christansen on Saturday at 9 a.m.
In B1 doubles, Aarush Kumar and Chait Krishna defeated Salisbury's Maas Jacobs and Robert Stabile, 8-6, and followed with a win over Christopher Newport's Ivan Ceric and Sam Halvorsen. The duo advances to the semifinals against Randolph's Carlos Haupt and Vincenzo Marchese on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Black Singles Bracket
Caden Hsia won his opener against Saint Joseph's John Butler, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, advancing to face Evan Ancu of Villanova on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Alejandro Rodriguez fell to Saint Joseph's Hector Fullone, 6-1, 6-2, and will meet Villanova's Ethan Solop in the consolation draw Saturday at 2 p.m.
White Singles Bracket
Lucio Kombo came from behind to defeat Chestnut Hill's Augustin Daubannay, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 11-9. He will meet Temple's Oliver Aguilar in the second round Saturday.
Arnav Nemali opened with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Chestnut Hill's Siddharth Malik and advances to face Villanova's Ryan Benoit.
Maxfield Ma fell to Benoit, 6-4, 6-1, and will face Malik in consolation play.
Gray Doubles Bracket
Ma and Rodriguez fell to Drexel's Kirakosov and Lima, 6-1, and will face Saint Joseph's Barnes and Fullone in consolation play Saturday morning.
Hsia and Kombo were defeated by Drexel's Moukarzel and Obrul, 6-2. They will face Temple's Pennabadi and Rees in consolation play Saturday.
