Eric Chen Named First Team Academic All-America For Second Consecutive Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Haverford College men's fencing junior Eric Chen has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® Division III First Team for the second consecutive season, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Chen is one of just three men's fencers in program history to receive the recognition. He joins Asa Hopkins '01, who was recognized in both 2000 and 2001, as multiple time winners of the prestigious honor.

The Ellicott City, Maryland product turned in another standout season, earning a spot on the 2025-26 USFCA All-America honorable mention squad this season. He was the 2025 NCAA Elite 90 Award recipient and the Division III Men's Epee Athlete of the Year. His 2024-25 campaign included a berth at the NCAA Championships, first-team Division III All-America honors from the USFCA and recognition as the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year.

He earned his second consecutive CSC Academic All-America® selection while majoring in anthropology and minoring in health studies, combining his academic pursuits with a commitment to public health and community service.

Earlier this year, Chen was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Truman Scholarship, a nationally competitive graduate fellowship recognizing promising public service leaders and agents for social change. Through his work as an EMT and involvement with health equity initiatives, Chen has focused on the intersection of research, policy, and practice as he pursues a future career in public health.

The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for combined excellence in athletic competition and the classroom. Academic All-America® candidates must have a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet sport-specific athletic requirements. The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, which assists College Sports Communicators with the awards process.

Since its inception in 1952, CSC has honored more than 21,000 student-athletes across NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA with Academic All-America® recognition.
