Baseball Defeated at Eastern, 15-8

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Haverford College baseball team jumped out early and showed some late resilience at the plate, but a pair of big innings from Eastern proved too much to overcome in a 15-8 non-conference setback on Wednesday afternoon.

The Fords (8-16) wasted no time applying pressure, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Mauro DeCillis worked a leadoff walk and later scored on a Miles Prusek RBI single, while Luke Treese followed with a run-scoring base hit of his own to give Haverford a 2-0 advantage.

Eastern (20-8) answered immediately in the home half, capitalizing on walks and a three-run home run from Matt McSorley to surge ahead 5-2.

Despite the deficit, Haverford continued to compete offensively. The Fords tied the game briefly in the third inning, plating three runs behind a two-run double from Ryan Field and an RBI double from Tommy Belman to make it 5-5 before Eastern's breakout frame.

The Eagles then delivered the decisive blow in the third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs on just three hits, aided by four walks and a David Garrido double to take a 12-5 advantage.

In the seventh inning, Will Schroen singled and Mauro DeCillis walked ahead of a towering three-run homer from Miles Prusek that cut the lead to seven at 15-8.

Prusek led the offensive effort, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored. DeCillis reached base four times with two hits and two walks, while Treese added a pair of hits and an RBI. Field contributed two RBIs, and Will Schroen chipped in two hits from the bottom of the lineup.

On the mound, Haverford utilized eight pitchers in a bullpen-game effort. Andrew Schindler provided two innings of relief, while Will Singer and Kiran Sen combined for three scoreless frames late to stabilize the game.

Eastern drew 10 walks in the contest and was led by David Garrido, who scored three times and drove in two runs, while Luke Meehan added three RBIs. Zachary Alfonso earned the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings.

The Fords will look to regroup as Baseball returns to Centennial Conference play in their next outing at home against Muhlenberg, wrapping up the home-and-home series with the Mules. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
