HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team (8-11) celebrated Senior Day in style on Saturday afternoon, securing a convincing 6-1 victory over No. 40 Stevens (10-5) at the Bramall Courts.
Prior to first serve, The Fords honored their senior class of Niki Lavu and Stefan Johnson, and the duo set the tone immediately with strong performances in both doubles and singles play against the nationally ranked Ducks.
Haverford opened the match with a clean sweep in doubles to secure the opening point. Niki Lavu and Teo Bortan struck first with a dominant 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Caden Hsia and Johnson followed with a clutch 6-4 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point. At No. 1, Marko Arboleda and Robbie Vazquez completed the sweep with a hard-fought 6-4 win.
The Fords carried momentum into singles, where Vazquez was first off the court, rolling to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 to extend the lead. Johnson followed with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4, dropping just two games.
The match-clinching point came from the top spot, where Lavu made quick work of Atlantic South No. 16 Max-William Kanz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Hsia added another point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 to push the score to 5-0.
Stevens earned its lone point at No. 2 singles, where Samvid Andhare defeated Arboleda 6-4, 6-3. The match concluded at No. 3 singles, as Bortan outlasted Ian Batra 7-5, 6-2 to seal the 6-1 final.
Haverford will next be in action in the final week of the regular season, taking on No. 35 Franklin & Marshall on Friday, April 24 at the Bramall Courts (3 p.m.) before heading to No. 8 Johns Hopkins to close the regular season in Baltimore on Saturday, April 25.
