SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The 35th-ranked Haverford College women's tennis team (4-5, 1-1 CC) was upended in a Hood Trophy rivalry matchup against No. 16 Swarthmore (9-5, 5-0 CC) at the Faulkner Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

The Garnet claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The top flight of Lola Diaz and Erin Li defeated Aarti Prochnow and Jolie Zink, 6-3, before Ella Strickler and Riya Rao secured the point with a 6-2 victory over Mallika Reddy and Sophie Capone at No. 3. Haverford's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Adelaide Kreutel and Abhi Menon earned a 6-3 decision over Kathleen Shiffer and Paola Almeda.

In singles play, Haverford secured one point as Swarthmore claimed five of six matches to clinch the team victory. Play began with a 6-2, 6-3 setback for Jolie Zink at No. 1 against Lola Diaz, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 loss from Menon at No. 6 to Uma Pogrebivsky.

Kreutel then put the Fords on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kathleen Shiffer at No. 3. Reddy was next off court at No. 4, falling 7-5, 6-3 to Lisa Messier, before Prochnow dropped a tightly contested match at No. 2, 6-4, 4-6 [10-3] to Erin Li. Capone rounded out the lineup at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Ella Strickler.

Women's Tennis now hops right back into Centennial Conference play with a matchup on Friday against Franklin & Marshall. The Fords and Diplomats will do battle at Villanova's Tennis Complex at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3 before the Fords take on Division I Saint Joseph's on Saturday, April 4 in Philadelphia (11 a.m.)
