Women's Tennis Breezes Past Diplomats, 6-1

VILLANOVA, Pa. —The Haverford College women's tennis team took control early and never looked back on Friday afternoon, dispatching Franklin & Marshall by a 6-1 margin in Centennial Conference action Friday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.

The Fords (5-5, 2-1 CC) set the tone in doubles play, claiming the point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Sophie Capone and Mallika Reddy were first off the court, cruising to a 6-2 victory over Amelia Squires and Lorena Saavedra at No. 3 doubles. After Franklin & Marshall evened things with a win at No. 2 doubles from Sahara Ahmad and Rebecca Bellick over Adelaide Kreutel and Abhi Menon, Jolie Zink and Aarti Prochnow secured the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph against Sophia Rhazali and Natalie Untermeyer at the top flight.

Carrying momentum into singles, Haverford dominated the early finishes to put the match out of reach. Zink wasted no time at No. 1, rolling past Natalie Untermeyer, 6-1, 6-3, to make it 2-0. Prochnow followed closely behind with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sahara Ahmad at No. 2, extending the lead to 3-0. Franklin & Marshall's lone point came at No. 5, where Sophia Rhazali outlasted Capone in a tightly contested match that featured a second-set tiebreak 6-3, 7-6 [10-8].

Haverford quickly responded to seal the team victory. Reddy delivered the clincher at No. 4, battling past Kakie Colclough in a competitive second set tiebreak, 6-4, 7-6 [7-5], to secure the fourth point. With the match decided, the Fords continued to add to their total.  Menon posted a steady 6-4, 6-4 win over Lorena Saavedra at No. 6, while Kreutel capped the afternoon with a comeback victory at No. 3, rallying past Rebecca Bellick in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.

With another crucial Centennial Conference victory now in hand to begin the weekend, the Fords will next test themselves against Division I Saint Joseph's on Saturday, April 4 (11 a.m.) on Hawk Hill.
