Haverford found success at the stripe, winning 14 of 21 faceoffs behind Max Esteban's 10-of-14 performance, but Franklin & Marshall capitalized on its offensive opportunities down the stretch. The Fords trailed by just three entering the final stanza before the visitors seized control late. Reid Tietjen led the Scarlet and Black with two goals and an assist, reaching a milestone with his 100th career goal and remaining in 13th place on Haverford's all-time scoring list with 101 tallies. Will Weinstein added a goal and an assist, while Nick Snyder also found the back of the net. Turner Elliott facilitated the offense with two assists. Tietjen also made an impact defensively, collecting a career-high 10 ground balls, while Ronan West caused three turnovers. In goal, Mac Broaddus turned aside 10 shots.
The Fords came out with energy, rattling the crossbar twice early on with shots from Philip Passalaqua and Tietjen, but it was Franklin & Marshall that struck first. Goals from Ben Dale and Jack Luviano gave the Diplomats an early edge before Colin Hulett, assisted by Weinstein, got Haverford on the board. The Diplomats answered with two more tallies from Matt Marino and and Dylan Reese to take a 4-1 lead after one quarter.
Franklin & Marshall extended its advantage in the second, pushing the lead to 7-1 behind a flurry that included another goal from Dale and goals from Mason Montrella and Marino. The Scarlet and Black responded before halftime though, as Snyder converted off a feed from Tietjen and Tietjen followed with a goal of his own, trimming the deficit to 7-3 at the halftime break.
Out of halftime, Haverford continued to chip away. Tietjen struck again off an assist from Elliott to make it 7-4, and after Montrella answered for the Diplomats, Weinstein finished a setup from Elliott in the closing seconds of the third quarter to bring the Fords within 8-5.
That proved to be as close as the Scarlet and Black would come, as Franklin & Marshall opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals from Luviano and Dale and never looked back. The Diplomats added insurance tallies from Cole Morris and Dale down the stretch to secure the 12-5 victory.
Haverford returns to action on Saturday, March 28, hosting Centennial Conference foe Ursinus at noon on Swan Field.
