FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Haverford College baseball team erupted for 15 runs over the final four innings to pull away for a 16–4 victory over Alfred State on Saturday morning at Terry Park Stadium. After falling behind early, the Fords (4-6) responded with a balanced offensive performance that produced 16 hits and saw nine different players record at least one knock.
Alfred State (5-15) struck first in the opening inning as Zach Young delivered an RBI double before Joey Sanna followed with an RBI single to give the Pioneers a 2–0 advantage.
Haverford cut into the deficit in the second when Ryan Field led off with a double and later scored on a two-out RBI single from Cole Roman to make it 2–1. The Fords broke through in the fifth inning to take control of the game. Luke Treese scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly from Sam Schaeffer before Roman delivered again with an RBI single to put Haverford in front. Mauro DeCillis followed with a two-run double to left field, capping a four-run frame that pushed the Fords ahead 5–2.
Haverford added four more runs in the sixth inning as Treese lined an RBI double to right and Jackson Sgro lifted a sacrifice fly to center. An Alfred State throwing error allowed another run to score before Schaeffer added an RBI single, extending the lead to 9–2. The Pioneers briefly answered in the bottom half of the inning with a Joshua Gardner RBI double and a Logan Lutz sacrifice fly, but Haverford's offense erupted again in the eighth.
Taking advantage of two Alfred State errors, the Fords plated seven runs in the frame. Jack Phiel highlighted the rally with a two-run double down the left-field line, while Miles Prusek added a two-run double of his own and Sgro capped the scoring with an RBI double to left.
Ryan Field paced the offense with a 3-for-6 performance and four runs scored, while Roman finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. DeCillis went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks, and Treese and Sgro each added two hits as part of the 16-hit attack.
On the mound, Alex Jenkinson earned his first win of the season after striking out six across six innings. Colin Lewis worked through the seventh before Jack Couture closed the game with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Haverford now returns home to the Keystone State for another busy week, beginning with a matinee matchup against Lebanon Valley (3:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, March 17.
