Men's Lacrosse Overpowered by No. 7 Stevens, 18-9

HOBOKEN, N.J. — The Haverford College men's lacrosse team (5-2) suffered just its second defeat of the season, falling to No. 7 Stevens (4-0) by an 18–9 score on Wednesday. The Fords were paced by seven different goal scorers, while winning 13 faceoffs and collecting 34 ground balls.

Philip Passalaqua led the Scarlet and Black with three points on two goals and an assist, placing four of his seven shots on goal. Ethan Waugh added two goals, scoring on both of his shots on target, while three different Fords finished with one goal and one assist. In the faceoff circle, Max Esteban won 12 of 26 draws while collecting a game-high seven ground balls. Defensively, Kieran Mayes and Hunter Rexford each caused a turnover. In goal, Mac Broaddus made 16 saves, marking his third game this season with at least 10 stops.

The first quarter began with Haverford securing possession following a successful faceoff win from Esteban. Nick Snyder quickly capitalized, scoring the first goal of the game at the 14:24 mark. Stevens answered with goals from Jackson Penn and Connor Moore to take the lead. Charlie Vaccaro, assisted by Turner Elliott, evened the score midway through the quarter, but the Ducks regained the advantage when Will Labartino scored off a feed from Penn, giving Stevens a 3–2 edge at the end of the period.

Stevens struck first in the second quarter with a goal from Penn at 14:11 to extend its lead. The Fords responded with Passalaqua scoring at 11:27, followed by Reid Tietjen finding the back of the net at 8:22 off an assist from Passalaqua to briefly tie the contest. The Ducks countered with two goals from Matthew Pergola—first at 6:16 with an assist from Mac Waynick and again at 1:34 off a feed from Jack Tenaglia. Haverford answered with goals from Passalaqua at 5:31 and Will Weinstein at 4:24, but Stevens closed the half with a late tally from Ryan Jack at 0:15, assisted by Adam DeCristofaro, taking an 8–6 lead into the break.

The Ducks extended their advantage in a dominant third quarter. Labartino opened the scoring at 13:44 with an assist from Penn, and Joe Leone added another goal at 11:02, prompting a timeout by the Scarlet and Black. Stevens continued to capitalize on turnovers, with Labartino striking again at 8:38 off an assist from Leone. DeCristofaro and Tenaglia each added goals in the final minute of the period as Stevens pushed its lead to 13–6. Haverford was unable to find the back of the net during the quarter.

Stevens maintained its momentum early in the fourth quarter as DeCristofaro scored twice, including a tally at 7:22. Blake Creamer and Pergola also added goals for the Ducks, with Pergola converting on a man-up opportunity at 3:28. The Fords responded late with Elliott finishing a pass from Vaccaro at 6:42, while Waugh added two goals in the period, including an unassisted strike with 24 seconds remaining. Despite the late push, Stevens secured the 18–9 victory.

Looking ahead, Haverford will return home to host Mary Washington on Saturday, March 14, with opening faceoff set for 1 p.m. on Swan Field.
